This is the second book in the Wildcats series (after Rage) and I finished it in no time!

From the moment I started, I was immediately pulled back into the story. I got the book in the evening and before I knew it, I had already read around 100 pages without even noticing. That says enough on its own.

The cover is, just like the previous one, dark and mysterious, this time with a panther and subtle details like flowers and axes. I think it fits the story perfectly. Subtle, but powerful, just like the content.

The story is again told from two perspectives: Tara (Shadow Panther) and Knox. I still love this, because you really get both sides completely, their thoughts, feelings, and motivations.

The story follows Tara, also known as Shadow Panther. Five years ago, she survived a brutal attack (an acid attack), which left scars on her face and arm. After that, she came into contact with The Wildcats, where she eventually became part of the team. She is the computer genius of The Wildcats.

Then there is Knox, a police officer who turns out to be much more than he first appears. Slowly, you learn more about him: who he is and why he does the things he does. I love it. It’s such an original way to portray a police officer who is eventually revealed to be a psychopath. It’s woven into the story in a very unique way.

What I really love about this book is the dynamic between Tara and Knox. It’s a very intense stalker & stalker / enemies-to-lovers dynamic, where they constantly challenge each other and react to everything the other does. It makes the story exciting, sometimes funny, and very addictive to read.

We also see more of The Wildcats again in this book. It’s nice to see how they continue to grow. (I can’t wait for the rest of the Wildcats series.)

Tara’s dog Shadow also plays a role, and those small moments make the story a bit lighter between all the intense events. I also have a soft spot for dogs in books. Shadow is amazing: playful, clumsy, protective, and funny. Love him.

What I really admire is how Nia Myst blends heavy themes like trauma, violence, and psychological tension into a story that still keeps you reading. It’s intense, sometimes heavy, but very well structured.

The chemistry between Tara and Knox is next level. Sometimes you think: what is even going on here, but at the same time you understand why they are drawn to each other. Knox has a very twisted way of loving, but it fits his character and is well developed throughout the story. And it works perfectly with Tara.

Some things I saw coming, others completely surprised me, which kept it exciting.

Conclusion
A dark, intense and addictive dark romance with strong characters and a complex dynamic. I absolutely devoured this book and can’t wait for the rest of the series.

And honestly? These books 100% deserve physical editions on my shelf. They are too good and too beautiful to stay as e-books only.

Dit is het tweede boek in de Wildcats serie (na Rage) en ik had hem echt in no-time uit!

Vanaf het moment dat ik begon zat ik er meteen weer helemaal in. Ik kreeg hem in de avond en had binnen korte tijd al zo’n 100 pagina’s gelezen zonder het door te hebben. Dat zegt eigenlijk al genoeg.

De kaft is net als de vorige keer donker en mysterieus, met deze keer een panter erop en subtiele details zoals bloemen en bijlen. Ik vind hem perfect passen bij het verhaal. Subtiel, maar krachtig, net als de inhoud.

Het verhaal wordt ook weer verteld vanuit twee perspectieven: Tara (Shadow Panther) en Knox. Ik blijf dat geweldig vinden, omdat je dan echt beide kanten volledig voelt, hun gedachten, gevoelens en motivaties.

Het verhaal volgt Tara, ook wel bekend als Shadow Panther. Vijf jaar geleden heeft zij een heftige aanval overleefd (een acid attack), waardoor ze littekens heeft op haar gezicht en arm. Daarna is ze in contact gekomen met The Wildcats, waar ze nu onderdeel van is geworden. Ze is de computer genius van The Wildcats.

Dan heb je Knox, een politieagent die later veel meer blijkt te zijn dan hij lijkt. Langzaam kom je steeds meer over hem te weten: wie hij is en waarom hij dingen doet zoals hij ze doet. Ik vind het geweldig. Het is een originele manier om een politieagent neer te zetten die uiteindelijk als psychopaat wordt getypeerd. Het is op een unieke manier in het verhaal verwerkt.

Wat ik heel sterk vind aan dit boek is de dynamiek tussen Tara en Knox. Het is echt een intense stalker & stalker / enemies-to-lovers dynamiek, waarbij ze elkaar continu uitdagen en reageren op alles wat de ander doet. Dat maakt het spannend, soms grappig en heel verslavend om te lezen.

Ook de rest van The Wildcats komt weer terug in het verhaal. Leuk om te zien hoe zij verder groeien. (Kan niet wachten op de andere delen van Wildcats.)

Daarnaast speelt haar hond (Shadow) ook een rol, en dat soort kleine momenten maken het verhaal juist wat luchtiger tussen alle heftige gebeurtenissen door. En ik heb sowieso een zwak voor honden in boeken. Shadow is geweldig: speels, lomp, beschermend en grappig. Love him.

Wat ik vooral knap vind, is hoe Nia Myst zware thema’s zoals trauma, geweld en psychologische spanning verwerkt in een verhaal dat je toch blijft doorlezen. Het is intens, soms heftig, maar heel goed opgebouwd. Je krijgt echt dat gevoel dat je blijft hangen in het verhaal.

De chemie tussen Tara en Knox is echt next level. Soms denk je: wat gebeurt hier nou precies, maar tegelijkertijd snap je ook waarom ze zo naar elkaar toe trekken. Knox heeft een heel eigen, vertekende manier van liefde, maar het past binnen zijn karakter en wordt goed uitgewerkt. En het werkt samen met Tara.

Sommige dingen zag ik aankomen, andere totaal niet, wat het lekker spannend hield.

Conclusie

Een donkere, intense en verslavende dark romance met sterke personages en een complexe dynamiek. Ik heb dit boek echt verslonden en kan niet wachten op de rest van de serie.

En eerlijk? Deze boeken wil ik 100% als fysieke edities in mijn kast hebben. Ze zijn te goed en te mooi om alleen als e-book te blijven.
